How many states are there in northeast Nigeria? As it is written, Nigeria has six (6) geographical regions, these areas include; the southeast, southwest, and south-south. While in the Northern region, there are North-East, North-West, and North-Central. Below is the full list of the northern-east states of Nigeria.

 

List Of North Eastern States:

  1.  Adamawa
  2.  Bauchi
  3.  Borno
  4.  Taraba
  5.  Yobe

 

1. Adamawa State

The Adamawa State, which located in the northeastern part of Nigeria. Adamawa was created in the year of 1991. The Taraba State was created from Adamawa State, which was called Gongola State back then in 1991. The name of the capital city of Adamawa State is Yola. Adamawa state is one of the states that has the most tribes than any other state in Nigeria.

 

  2. Bauchi State

The Bauchi is located in the area of the northeast bordering the plateau state. Bauchi state was established in February 1976. The state was created from the former North-East region.

  3. Borno State

Borno State shared borderlands with the likes of Adamawa, Gombe, Yobe, and the Cameroon Republic. The Borno was created on February 3, in the year of 1976. from the former North East region. Most of the Borno residents are members of the Kanuri tribe. The name of Borno State’s capital city is Maiduguri.

4. Gombe State

The name Gombe state’s capital is also ‘’Gombe. The Gombe state is located in the north-eastern part of Nigeria. Gombe State was created from Bauchi State, on October 1, in the year of 1996.

 

  5. Taraba State

The Taraba State is located in the North Eastern region of Nigeria. was created from the old Gongola state on 27 August 1991. From Gongola which included Adamawa and Taraba state.

   6. Yobe State

The Yobe state located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, Yobe state was created from the old Borno state on 27 August 1991. The name of the capital city of Yobe State is ‘Damaturu. Yobe state shares borderlands with Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, and Jigawa states.
